In 1905 Dr Henry-Auguste Widmer opened the Clinique Valmont in Glion, on the hillside above Montreux and Lake Geneva. Celebrated for its hydrotherapy and its devotion to health and wellbeing, the clinic became a discreet retreat for the cultural figures of its day, among them Rainer Maria Rilke, Georges Simenon, Ingrid Bergman and Coco Chanel.
In the early 1980s the clinic became the first in Switzerland to specialise in cosmetic surgery, and in 1985 a patented discovery by the cosmetologist Dr Nadja Avalle established it as a leader in genetics and cellular cosmetics. Valmont skincare followed: an exclusive line built on active molecules such as native collagen and DNA, presented in opaline jars with green accents that recalled the clinic's surgical dress.
Valmont remains a family-owned Swiss company. Sophie Vann Guillon, its Chief Executive, joined in 2000 and has led product development and the maison's growth around the world. Didier Guillon, Chairman and Artistic Director, brings a collector's eye that shapes everything from limited-edition packaging to the company's art collections.
In 2001 the maison created l'Elixir des Glaciers, its most precious skincare collection, and later Storie Veneziane, a family of perfumes inspired by Venice. In 2015 the Fondation Valmont was established at Palazzo Bonvicini in Venice to carry forward Valmont's long commitment to art. Closer to the ground, the company has for many years supported beekeepers and bee-protection organisations in Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Valmont Skincare Australia is the maison's official distributor for Australia and New Zealand, bringing its skincare and professional treatments to a select group of retail stockists and spa partners.
